“The door just popped into the center as if it was made of paper. In rushed the water and sand. In ten minutes, everything we worked so hard to build was destroyed,” said Rabbi Shimmy Silver.

“The past few days have been very sad for me and our preschool families.  Our school was built with the hard work and love of parents, teachers and children.  Two thirds of our classrooms have been washed away.” sighed Sara Silver, principal of Neshama Pre-School.

“My sons and I carried sifrei Torah through five feet of freezing cold sewer water. We carried them on our heads. Thank G‑d we were able to bring them to higher ground, to safety. But everything else in shul was destroyed,” said Rabbi Zushe Winner.

“I just finished buying all new books, toys and art supplies for our Hebrew School.  Two  thousand   dollars   worth of these supplies

were neatly unpacked into the closet in the basement of Seabreeze Jewish Center  I can’t believe it’s all ruined. The toys were never played with, the books were never read. The piano is floating in five feet of sewer water. And that’s the smallest part of it. We need to completely renovate,” said Rebbetzin Esther Winner with a sad smile. “Oh, and we don’t have any cars. They were all destroyed in the storm.”

“Sandy will not get in the way of our work for the Russian Jewish community.  We will rebuild and grow like never before,” says Rabbi Moshe Dovid Winner.
